Orosei is a town of around 7,000 inhabitants on the eastern coast of Sardinia, in the province of Nuoro, and it gives its name to the Gulf of Orosei — the one where you find Cala Luna, Cala Mariolu, Cala Goloritzé, Cala Sisine, Cala Biriola. The most spectacular coves in Sardinia, though not immediately belonging to Orosei: they are reached by boat from Cala Gonone (45 km to the south) or on excursions.
Orosei itself is a historic medieval village 5 km from the sea, with a historic centre unique in Sardinia: Romanesque and Baroque churches (San Giacomo Maggiore, Sant'Antonio Abate, Rosario), narrow alleys, stone and lime houses, authentic atmosphere. One of the few places on the island where you can still see the traditional Sardinia — patron saint festivals, Sardinian costume, the Sardinian language spoken.
The coastal area has several hamlets: Marina di Orosei, Cala Liberotto, Sas Linnas Siccas, Sa Petra Ruja. Crystal-clear sea, century-old pine forest, beaches less crowded than Cala Gonone.
