Siniscola: the Eastern Coast
and the White Beaches of Bidderosa

"Siniscola is the Sardinia that hasn't been 'discovered' by mass tourism. An eastern coast where beaches — La Caletta, Capo Comino, Berchida, Bidderosa — alternate white sand and century-old pine forests. Eight kilometres from Cala Gonone, easy access from Olbia."

📍 Cos’è Siniscola

Siniscola is a municipality of around 11,000 inhabitants on the eastern coast of Sardinia, in the province of Nuoro. The real town is inland, at the foot of Monte Albo, but the tourist area is concentrated on the coast: 🏖️ La Caletta, the main seaside hamlet, and a series of beaches stretching for almost 20 kilometres.

It is one of those places that mass tourism has not yet overrun. The eastern coast (Baronia di Siniscola) is less known than the Costa Smeralda and less celebrated than Cala Gonone, but it offers some of the most spectacular white beaches in Sardinia — including protected areas such as Bidderosa, accessible only by booking and with limited numbers.

We at AffittaSardegna directly manage 18 properties in Siniscola since 2011 — a significant portfolio covering homes in the town centre, apartments near the La Caletta beaches, and small villas in the Capo Comino area. It is our second strongest area on the eastern coast after Cala Gonone.

In Siniscola the season starts late and ends early. May-June and September are the top months: deserted beaches, prices way down, a sea that's already warm or still warm. This is authentic Sardinia, the one without queues at the restaurant.

🏖️ The Beaches of the East Coast

The Siniscola coast stretches for about 20 kilometres and includes some of Sardinia's most award-winning beaches. All reachable by car in under 15 minutes from the town centre.

La Caletta

The main seaside hamlet. An urban pale-sand beach, a marina, restaurants, supermarkets. A lively but measured atmosphere, perfect for those who want everything within reach.

⭐ Bidderosa

A protected nature reserve — capped access (200 cars/day) with compulsory booking. Five coves set among the pine forest. One of Sardinia's most memorable experiences.

🌊 Capo Comino

A wide beach with shifting dunes behind it and centuries-old junipers. A historic lighthouse, a wild atmosphere, free parking. Among the most photogenic on the coast.

🏝️ Berchida

2 km di sabbia bianca finissima, mare turchese, sistema dunale protetto. Premiata da Legambiente tra le “5 vele”. Ingresso libero ma parcheggi limitati.

⛵ Santa Lucia

A fishing village with a small harbour, a serviced beach, fish restaurants. A homely atmosphere, great for families with children.

🌅 Sas Linnas Siccas Beach

North of Capo Comino, wild, protected dunes, frequented by locals. A primitive atmosphere, no services. For those seeking total isolation.

Costo: 9€ a auto, gratuito a piedi/bici. Misura necessaria che ha salvato l’ecosistema dalla pressione turistica selvaggia.

  • Cala no.1 — La Bocca: the most accessible, near the car park
  • Cala no.2 — Le Tre Pini: medium turnout, natural shade
  • Cala no.3 — La Centrale: the largest, perfect sand
  • Cala no.4 — Sa Bandera: less crowded, rocky seabed
  • Cala no.5 — La Selvaggia: the most isolated, accessible only on foot
💡 Practical tip: Book Bidderosa 7-10 days in advance in July-August on the website of the Municipality of Orosei. Morning or afternoon slot. No bars/restaurants in the reserve: bring water and lunch. See also our guide to capped-access beaches.

⭐ Unmissable Experiences

🚤 Excursion to the Gulf of Orosei

From La Caletta or from the port of Santa Lucia, boats leave for the Gulf of Orosei — Cala Luna, Cala Gonone, Cala Mariolu, Cala Goloritzé. One of the most spectacular coastlines in the Mediterranean. Day tour, average cost €50-80 per person.

🏔️ Trekking on Monte Albo

The limestone massif of Monte Albo (1,127 m) towers over Siniscola with spectacular walls. Trails for every level, from easy walks to climbing routes. Views over the Gulf of Orosei and the Tyrrhenian Sea. Season: October-May.

🧀 Flavours of the Baronia

Siniscola is an area of authentic agro-pastoral production. Su Filindeu (wool pasta, UNESCO-recognised), sheep's cheese, Cannonau wine from Nuoro, pane carasau. Dairies open to visits, tasting cost €10-15 per person.

🐎 Horse Tourism

Equestrian centres inland organise horse rides across the Capo Comino dunes and Monte Albo forests. Suitable for beginners. Cost €30-50 per person for 1-2 hours.

🤿 Snorkelling and Diving at Capo Comino

The rocky seabed off Capo Comino is among the richest on the east coast. Dive schools in La Caletta organize guided dives and snorkelling tours, including for beginners.

Is Siniscola suitable for families with children?
Yes, very much. La Caletta is urban and fully serviced. Santa Lucia is family-friendly and quiet. Capo Comino has a gently sloping seabed suitable for little ones. A nightlife-free atmosphere, no clubs, a paediatrician in town, essential services.
Do the AffittaSardegna homes in Siniscola have air conditioning and Wi-Fi?
All 18 managed properties in Siniscola have air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, a washing machine, linens and towels included. Many have a terrace or courtyard, some a shared pool.
Is Siniscola or Cala Gonone better value?
Cala Gonone = a base for the spectacular coves of the Gulf of Orosei (Cala Luna, Mariolu, Goloritzé), a more touristy atmosphere. Siniscola = a lesser-known east coast, endless white beaches (Berchida, Capo Comino, Bidderosa), prices 15-25% lower. Distance between the two: 40 km. They combine easily on a longer stay.
How many days do you need to visit Siniscola and its surroundings?
For Siniscola alone (all its beaches + Bidderosa): 5-6 nights. To use it as a base for the east-coast cluster (Cala Gonone, Orosei, San Teodoro, Budoni): 10-14 days minimum. A week is the ideal compromise.
A Siniscola c’è movida o vita notturna?
Limited, and that's one of its qualities. La Caletta has restaurants, bars and a few evening venues. For real nightlife: San Teodoro (35 km) or Olbia (50 km). Siniscola is chosen by those seeking nature, sea and genuine quiet.
