Porto Rafael: the Hidden
Car-Free Village of Gallura
"Porto Rafael is the anti–Costa Smeralda: no yachts to show off, no traffic, no noise. A village of white houses and bougainvillea built around a single piazzetta, where you leave the car at the entrance and walk. The Sardinia that chose silence."

📍 What Is Porto Rafael
Porto Rafael is an exclusive but discreet village near Palau, in northern Gallura, facing the La Maddalena archipelago. It was founded in the late 1950s by the Spanish aristocratLa Maddalena Archipelago. He created it with the opposite philosophy to the Costa Smeralda — not glamour and visibility, but intimacy and silence.
The heart of the village is pedestrian: white houses in Mediterranean style among bougainvillea, a small square overlooking the sea, and almost no car traffic. Leave the car at the entrance and walk. We've managed holiday homes here since 2011.
Porto Rafael is for those who have already seen the Costa Smeralda and want its opposite: no yachts on display, no boutiques — just the sound of the wind in the pines and the sea. An address people keep to themselves.
White sand and turquoise water, with the surf scene as backdrop. Beautiful even just for swimming and sunbathing.
🏖️ Spiaggia di Porto Rafael
The village's small beach, sheltered and calm, with clear water and a view of the islands. Steps from the piazzetta.
🌊 Punta Sardegna
A short walk away, small coves and rocks with transparent water, looking out toward La Maddalena.
🐚 Le Saline & Palau beaches
Just minutes away: Porto Faro, La Sciumara and the coves toward the Roccia dell'Orso.
