Sardinia has one of the mildest winter climates in Italy — and that is its secret to its appeal in the off-season.

Northern Sardinia in winter can have lovely days with temperatures of 18–20°C and plenty of sunshine, interspersed with periods of strong Mistral winds. Always carry a waterproof jacket — the weather can change quickly.
Winter is the best time of year to explore Sardinia’s inland landscape: lush greenery, crisp air and wildlife in full swing. The trails in Supramonte, Monte Limbara and Nurra are simply stunning from October to April.
Winter is the season when Sardinian cuisine is at its best: mushrooms (porcini, ovuli), suckling pig, lamb, legume soups and mature cheeses. Restaurants in the inland areas offer winter menus that aren’t available in summer.
The villages of northern Sardinia are a completely different place in the off-season: the craft shops are open, the locals have time to chat, and the bars become social hubs. It’s an immersion in authenticity that’s impossible to experience in summer.
